The other cool mechanic to highlight is the different parries. This system also ties into the above with that sense of being lost and discovering new things. It’s a really interesting system which encourages you to experiment and use your consumables instead of just hoarding them for the whole game. When you pick up a new consumable item, you will not know what it does, and will have to use it multiple times to build up familiarity with that consumable to be told what it does. One other minor mechanic to shout out is the familiarity system. However bear in mind there’s definitely some lack in balancing between enemy placements with most areas having too many enemies for the health you have, and certain weapons/abilities being much stronger than other. I usually can navigate myself pretty well through souls games but I felt totally lost in this one and loved it. The part of the game that really grasped me though was the sense of discovery and being lost something that non-Fromsoft soulslikes tend to lack. There are some enemies that feels a little too fast for the flow of the game but overall the game has solid combat. I went in based on the reviews expecting a janky souls knock off, but was surprised to how smooth the combat is once you get the flow of it. This was such a pleasant surprise for me. I really don’t get the reviews on this one.
